Giving survivors a lifeline — one phone at a time

The Rotary Club of North Hobart is proud to partner with DV Safe Phone, a national program that refurbishes and distributes mobile phones to people fleeing family or sexual violence. A phone can be a lifeline — providing a safe, unmonitored way to stay connected, reach support services, and take steps toward safety.
Thanks to a founding $10,000 Community Grant from Hobart Airport, we are bringing this vital program to Tasmania.

How it works

From your drawer to someone's hands
The DV Safe Phone program turns unused mobile phones into tools for safety and connection.
1. Phones are donated
Members of the public donate their old or unused mobile phones — including broken ones or devices that no longer turn on — at designated drop-off points around Hobart.
2. Phones are refurbished
DV Safe Phone's national network carefully tests, restores, and fits each handset with a brand new battery, wiping all previous data to ensure every device is safe and secure for its next user.
3. Phones reach people in need
Refurbished phones are distributed right here in Tasmania through Tasmania Police and local frontline services, giving people escaping domestic violence a private, unmonitored device to contact support services, family, and emergency help — without their abuser knowing.

Safety and hope
For people escaping domestic violence, a safe phone can be their only way to connect with help and begin rebuilding their life.
It stays in Tasmania
Phones donated here are refurbished and distributed back to Tasmanians in need, through Tasmania Police and frontline services.
Environmental impact
The program also reduces electronic waste by repurposing devices that might otherwise end up in landfill — contributing to a circular economy.
All phones welcome
DV Safe Phone accepts all donations, including broken devices and phones that no longer turn on.

Hobart Airport
Founding sponsor of RCNH's DV SafePhone project through a $10,000 Community Grant in 2026. Hobart Airport also hosts a public phone drop-off point at their Administration Building, making it easy for the Hobart community to contribute.

Donate a phone

Got an old phone in a drawer? Put it to work.
You can drop off your unused mobile phone at either of these locations:
📍 Hobart Airport Administration Building
🕘 Monday to Friday, during business hours
📍 Maypole Hotel, 191 New Town Rd, New Town
🕖 Tuesday evenings from 6pm (at our weekly Rotary meeting)
Can't make it in person? Call or message us on 0438 240 125 to arrange a pickup.
Before you donate, we recommend signing out of your accounts and completing a factory reset to protect your personal information. Step-by-step instructions are available at dvsafephone.org. Don't worry if you're unsure — DV Safe Phone's team handles all data wiping as part of the refurbishment process.
Businesses and organisations: If you're donating ex-fleet devices, please include a factory reset as part of your process. Contact us on 0438 240 125 to discuss a bulk collection.
