Protecting the environment is one of Rotary International's seven Areas of Focus — a global commitment to conserving natural resources, advancing sustainability, and fostering harmony between people and the natural world. For the Rotary Club of North Hobart, this means rolling up our sleeves locally: cleaning up creeks and foreshores, planting trees, mentoring the next generation of "Eco Warriors," and helping our community recycle better. Here's a look at what we've been up to.
Litter Pickup at Queen's Domain
30 May 2026
Members Erika, Marnie and Adam spent the morning collecting rubbish across Queen's Domain, helping keep one of Hobart's most-loved green spaces clean for everyone to enjoy.
Eco Warriors Partnership with Campbell Street Primary School
Ongoing — October 2025, March & April 2026
RCNH members Brian and Jim have been mentoring the Eco Warriors group at Campbell Street Primary School, supporting students as they take on hands-on environmental projects. It's been a rewarding partnership, with members Brian, Jim and Ben joining the students for several sessions throughout the year.
Recycling Action & Education
16 February & 23 March 2026
Member Louise Bloomfield spent time at North Hobart Oval educating the public on how to use recycling containers correctly — small actions that add up to big impact. Around the same time, member Adam shared the great news of a Recycle Rewards donation, showing how everyday recycling can directly support community causes.
Clean Up Australia Day — New Town Creek
Sunday 1 March 2026
RCNH members joined the national Clean Up Australia Day effort, focusing on New Town Creek — removing litter and helping protect local waterways.
Beautifying Amelia House
5 February 2026
Members Tony, Jim and Brian spent the day gardening to beautify the grounds of Amelia House in North Hobart, a small but meaningful contribution to the local streetscape.
New Town Bay — Rewilding & Community Planting
1 & 8 November 2025
RCNH members took part in a Community Planting Day at New Town Bay, helping restore native vegetation to the foreshore. The following week, the club ran a stall at the official opening of the rewilded New Town Bay — an opportunity offered by City of Hobart staff to celebrate this exciting local environmental milestone.
