Is Rotary only for retired people? Not at all.
Our members include people at different stages of life, from young professionals and business owners to retirees and community leaders. What brings us together is a desire to make a positive difference in our community. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and professions.
Do I need to attend every meeting? No.
We understand that people have busy lives, work commitments and family responsibilities. Members contribute in different ways and at different times.
Many people start by helping with a project or attending an event before deciding how involved they would like to be.
What if I don't know anyone? Most of us joined without knowing many people.
The Rotary Club of North Hobart is a welcoming environment where friendships develop naturally through shared projects, events and community activities.
You will quickly find yourself surrounded by people who are supportive, encouraging and keen to help you get involved.
I'm busy. Do I really have enough time for Rotary? Probably.
There is no expectation that Rotary will take over your life. Some members volunteer a few hours each month, while others choose to become more involved.
You can contribute in a way that works for you.
What if I don't have special skills? You already have something valuable to contribute.
Every member brings different experiences, ideas and talents. Some people enjoy organising projects, some help with social media, some mentor young people and others simply lend a hand when needed. Rotary succeeds because people work together.
Is Rotary just meetings? No.
Meetings help us stay connected, but Rotary is really about people, projects and community impact. Our members support initiatives ranging from healthy ageing and domestic violence prevention to youth development, peacebuilding and environmental projects.
Do I need leadership experience? No.
Rotary is a great place to develop leadership skills, confidence and new friendships. Many members take on new opportunities they never expected when they first joined. Rotary International's online training will provide you with certified training which besides helping you understand Rotary will build skills for life and work.
How much does membership cost?
Membership fees help support the administration of the club and Rotary International.

Why do I pay to volunteer?You don't. You pay for infrastructure: insurance, facilities, a global organisation that can move disaster relief in days, and a network that took 120 years to build. The volunteering is what you do with it. Framed properly, it's the cheapest professional development subscription in the state.
Can I visit before joining? Absolutely.
We encourage prospective members to attend a meeting, project or event before making a decision.
Visiting gives you an opportunity to learn more about Rotary, meet our members and see whether the club is a good fit for you.
If you decide to join, we ask members to make a commitment to the club through their participation, support and membership fees.
There is no pressure to make that decision immediately.
Why do people join Rotary? People join for different reasons.
Some want to make a difference. Some want to meet new people. Some are looking for purpose, friendship or an opportunity to give back.
Many discover they gain all of these things—and more.
