Every 2.5 minutes, someone in Australia is hospitalized due to a fall . Most of these are preventable with simple, practical actions. The Rotary Club of North Hobart is helping our community stay steady and confident through evidence-based education.
Every 2.5 minutes, someone in Australia is hospitalized due to a fall . Most of these are preventable with simple, practical actions. The Rotary Club of North Hobart is helping our community stay steady and confident through evidence-based education.
The 28-Day "Steady on Your Feet" Challenge Join us for a simple action each day to transform your home safety and physical confidence.
Week 1: Awareness & Home Safety
Week 2: Strength & Balance
Week 3: Health Checks
Week 4: Confidence & Connection
Week 1: Awareness & Home Safety
- Remove trip hazards like loose rugs or cluttered walkways.
- Secure all cords against walls to prevent snagging.
- Brighten your path by checking lights in hallways and using night lights.
Week 2: Strength & Balance
- Move for 20 minutes in any safe way to keep your joints active.
- Practice standing from a chair five times in a row.
- Build stability by balancing on one foot near a bench or walking heel-to-toe.
Week 3: Health Checks
- Review medications with your GP or pharmacist to check for side effects.
- Check your footwear—ensure your shoes have supportive, non-slip soles.
- Book a vision or hearing test to stay sharp and aware of your surroundings.
Week 4: Confidence & Connection
- Walk with a friend to stay connected and safe.
- Share a tip with a neighbor to help spread falls awareness.
- Celebrate your progress! Small things really do make a big difference.
